English football sad to see Jermaine Pennant join S-league -- because of his model wife

Football fans in England are sad to see player Jermaine Pennant leave for Singapore -- but it's not entirely because of him.

UK's The Sun reports that it is "not because we think the winger has more to offer to English football" but they were "saddened by the prospect of his stunning wife Alice Goodwin moving to the Far East with him".

According to SunSport, Pennant, 32, who formerly played with Liverpool and Arsenal, has seen his career take a huge plunge -- one deeper than his wife's neckline.

English fans are more saddened to see his wife, 30-year-old glamour model Alexis Goodwin, leave.

In 1999, Pennant became the world's most expensive teenager, when Arsenal paid Notts County £2m for his services (he was just 15 years old at the time). He was in Liverpool's starting XI for the 2007 Champions League Final.

Nowadays, people often forget that Pennant was once a seriously good footballer, reports The Mirror

He failed to impress Stoke, Spanish side Real Zaragoza and with the Latics -- before being approached by Singapore's S-League runners-up Tampines Rovers.

Goodwin apparently also does late-night TV chat channels and has been dating Pennant since 2012. The duo got married last year.

In 2011, Pennant also made headlines for 'forgetting' that he owned a Porsche, abandoning it at a Spanish train station.

He would certainly be a unique addition to S-league, and let's hope he leaves more sports cars around Singapore for us to find.

Meanwhile, his wife tweeted that she is "never returning to UK" because "Singapore has stolen my heart".
