Fashion shows usually see models strutting down the catwalk wearing the latest designs and accessories, but the models in designer Rick Owens' fashion show at Paris Fashion Week had more on their arms than handbags and scarves.
It is a fashion show inspired by "bonds between women," according to the American designer, who presented his collection at Paris Fashion Week on Oct 1.
Instead of accessories, the models strutted down the runway carrying... other models. With other women strapped to their backs and fronts, the whole display created a "bizarrely moving atmosphere," as described by entertainment website and magazine Us Weekly.
Designer Owens described the straps that secured the women to the models as supports, instead of restraints.
Owens was quoted as saying: "I see [my vision for the collection] being more about nourishment, sisterhood/motherhood… Women raising women, women becoming women, and women supporting women."
For fashionistsas who don't have a handy friend to strap to their shoulders, Owens' other pieces are just as well designed to turn heads on and off the catwalk.
The designer is no stranger to putting up controversial shows during the annual fashion parade. Last year, he shocked audiences by sending male models down the runway in strategically-cut tunics sans underwear, putting their family jewels on display.
