Local rapper turned actor Shigga Shay is the man of the moment.
The 22-year-old true-blue homeboy released his self-titled album last month - on National Day, no less -which features a collection of songs with raps in all the national languages.
His debut movie, 3688, a musical comedy directed by Royston Tan and also starring Joi Chua and Liu Lingling, will hit cinemas on Sept 17. And with that, a single titled Tapau, 3688's theme song, which has more than 57,000 views on YouTube.
Shigga Shay is also going to perform at the finale of The New Paper New Face 2015 on Oct 1 at Takashimaya Square.
You would think a hip-hop star in the limelight would make it rain on the daily, but far from throwing money around, he says he is careful with his money.
When it comes to fashion, Shigga Shay, whose real name is Pek Jin Shen, is a "cautious spender."
He told The New Paper: "I actually think a lot before making a purchase. Music is my biggest indulgence. The most I've spent on a single item was on a MacBook Pro. The first item I bought with my earnings was a Saffire audio interface for my recordings."
With so much music on his mind, maybe that's why he fell victim to fashion nightmares.
His worst mistake? "Wearing XXXL baggy jeans with a tight fitted tee. I stopped doing that after my close buddy gave me a long talk on why I need to stop doing that."
These days, Shigga Shay looks to US music star Pharrell Williams and fashion designer Virgil Abloh for fashion inspiration. When that fails, he turns to his designer friends for advice.
He feels confident enough to offer fashion tips. For instance, never leave home wearing a waist pouch.
"It makes you look sloppy."
* Meet Shigga Shay and the cast of 3688 on Sept 20 at 5pm at Bugis Junction's Bugis Square Level 1.
Shigga Shay said his Stussy T-shirt fits his personal style best.
"The 'S' on my baseball jersey represents my name...hence this look kind of defines my style," he said.
There is one item that he holds dear - his cap.
"The LimPeh snapback represents the song that made my career possible back in 2013. I wear these LimPeh snapbacks now because it still reminds me about the city I came from."
He paired the cap with a shirt and joggers from AAPE and shoes from Puma.
Shigga Shay has swag - style - even when he's in shutdown mode. His outfit of choice was the Puma Stampd LA combination of jacket and sweatpants.
He said: "I usually wear something comfortable like a hoodie or sweater. Something easy to throw on, but still nothing too shabby."
Shigga on stage
Comfort is important when he's moving around on stage.
He picked a Christian Dada jacket, a pair of Flesh Imp joggers and shoes from Puma.
"You have to feel comfortable to be able to perform your best but still look good at the same time, so you definitely can't forget about style."
