The frontman and vocalist of veteran local rock band Heritage, Atwell Jansen, died this morning. He was aged 62.
Jansen's wife Christine Neo told Life! that her husband suffered a fall while riding his bicycle through the Bukit Panjang nature reserve yesterday afternoon. She said the fall caused his skull to fracture and damage to the brain, reports the Straits Times.
A passer-by found him unconscious at 12.45pm yesterday and called the ambulance. Jansen was taken to the hospital for treatment but his condition deteriorated, and he eventually died this morning around 7am.
Jansen's band Heritage is one of Singapore's longest surviving rock bands, performing originals and covers of progressive rock bands like Cream, Frank Zappa and Jethro Tull.
He, along with his brother Ashley Jansen, played live as Heritage at intimate pub J.J Atlante at Duxton road six nights a week.
Neo said a wake will be held from tomorrow evening until Sunday.
