With great star power comes great responsibility to charm and entertain. The director and cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swung into town on Thursday night and they were all in top form, pleasing both fans and the press alike with jokes and good-natured jibes at one another.
According to a report in The Straits Times, director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx strode the red carpet at Marina Bay Sands shopping mall, gamely taking selfies and signing autographs for some of the thousands of screaming fans that packed all four floors of the building near the ice skating rink.
Garfield, 30, quipped: "I have never seen a shopping mall with so much soul before." He added that he had "very tasty" chicken rice at Maxwell food centre earlier in the day, much to the delight of the onlookers.
At the press conference held at the MasterCard Theatre following the red carpet segment, Foxx, 46, improvised a song about The Straits Times and put it into an impromptu beatbox and rap song, causing the entire hall filled with fans and international journalists to cheer and whistle.
Stone, 25, also got everyone laughing when she attempted to sidestep a question about what the definition of an "activated complex" is. She was asked the question jokingly as she plays a science expert, Gwen Stacy, in the film.
The actress paused, then said to the journalist in jest: "Why are you doing this? What have I done to you? I know the answer in my mind but do you know the answer? I'm not going to do your homework for you."
On Saturday, the people behind The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be at the Float@Marina Bay to help switch off the lights across the Marina Bay skyline to mark Earth Hour.
