Taiwanese renowned writer and director, Giddens Ko (also known as ”Jiu ba dao”) held a press conference yesterday, where he confessed to cheating on his girlfriend.
The You Are the Apple of My Eye <那些年，我們一起追的女孩> director was photographed checking into a motel with a long-haired woman, reports Asian Pop News.
Just when the paparazzi thought that the woman was his girlfriend of nine years, illustrator Xiao Nei, it turned out to be CTV news reporter Zhou Tingyu.
At the press conference, Giddens came clean about his affair and said, “The woman who was photographed with me is not my girlfriend, and I have cheated. I know everyone is curious about the identity of the woman, but I will not reveal the details.
"The damage is done and I don’t wish to cause additional harm to anyone. I will only reveal all these details to my girlfriend and I will beg for her forgiveness.
“I am not a good person when it comes to love. What I will work on now is to apologise to my girlfriend. I have been saying sorry to her since last night.”
Talking about the “third party”, Giddens said, “I really like this girl a lot, but when it comes to my love choice, I hope my future will be with my existing girlfriend. I owe my girlfriend an apology. Even till now, she has not forgiven me. I will continue to work hard.”
Giddens thought that it was “strange” to come out and apologise to the public as love is supposed to be an private affair, but as a public figure, he had to do so. He also admitted that it was not the first time he had checked into a motel with the female reporter.
“This is my retribution, and I feel terrible and painful too.”
The 'third party' has been identified as 24-year-old CTV reporter, Zhou Tingyu, who has a boyfriend outside the entertainment industry.
After the scandal broke, Tingyu did not report to work and closed her Facebook account. Her boyfriend has also deleted their photos and all content related to her from Facebook.
Giddens and Tingyu are said to have met during an interview. In August, Giddens nominated Tingyu for the ALS Challenge. The duo had frequent interactions on Weibo.
