Source: The Daily ChilliRaymond Lam was always going to be a dark horse in the race to become the new king of TV in Hong Kong. But when he left the 2012 TVB Anniversary Awards last month empty-handed once again, that was the last straw.Raymond was beaten by three-time Best Actor award recipient Wayne Lai, and lost the My Favourite Male Character award to Kenneth Ma, despite his acclaimed portrayal of Happy Sir in the highly rated series Highs And Lows. Both defeats came as a surprise to fans and his fellow artistes, but no one was more shocked than Raymond himself. The 33-year-old actor was so disappointed by the results that he announced his plan to leave and retire from showbiz."If I had to choose between my career and my family, I'll pick family," he told Hong Kong's Ming Pao Weekly magazine. "My father is over 60 and I wouldn't be a filial son if I didn't help with the family business."Born into a wealthy family with an estimated fortune of HK$2 billion (RM787 million), Raymond's dad Lam Kwok Wah is a renowned real estate developer who manages several estates and construction companies and was given the nickname "The Li Ka-Shing of Xiamen".Raymond himself is an architecture graduate and he's counting on talking about building projects and property markets pretty soon. "It won't be long now but I don't know when exactly," he said. It's believed that the TVB heartthrob still has a year on his contract.
