Malaysian actor Awie pleads not guilty to bashing wife

Rock singer and actor Ahmad Azhar Othman, better known as Awie (pic), was charged in the magistrate’s court here, Friday with causing hurt to his wife Rozana Misbun.

Awie, 46, claimed trial before magistrate Ayuni Izzaty Sulaiman after the charge was read to him.

Awie, who was the lead singer of rock band Wings, is charged with causing hurt to Rozana, 36, at a house in Taman Ukay Bestari here on June 2 at about 1.30pm.

The court later fixed bail at RM9,000 with two sureties pending mention on Aug 11.

Among the artiste’s most popular songs are Tragedi October, Taman Rashidah Utama and Senja Nan Merah.

Awie has also stared in a host of box-office hits among them Sembilu, Zombi Kampung Pisang and Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah.
