A growing number of entertainers are entering politics in China, such as Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, who is reportedly set to become a delegate to Guangdong's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Previously, it was reported that former adult star Diana Pang is China's hottest new politician.Want China Times reports that Chan has become a controversial figure in recent years, displaying an enthusiasm for the political establishment that has brought him criticism both at home and abroad. A strident brand of Chinese nationalism has seemed for many to be at odds with the happy-go-lucky persona that has characterized his film career and he allegedly maintains a good relationship with many Chinese politicians. On his credit side is his work for charity, as Chan has joined fundraising activities on several occasions following devastating earthquakes or floods.Chan criticized Hong Kong as a "city of protest" in a recent interview with a Guangzhou magazine, and this, coupled with previous statements to the effect that Chinese people cannot handle freedom and need to be controlled, have made him unpopular with many internet users and led him to being ranked 14th on a list of China's worst people of 2012 voted for by Sina Weibo users.
