How Donnie Yen got ready for his role as the Monkey King

Donnie Yen Chi Tan played Sun Wukong in the movie The Monkey King.

He said: "It's not an easy role to play and before the performance I had to do a lot of monkey-related research."

During the shoot he almost played every scene half kneeling, which made his waist especially tired.

In the film, Sun Wukong he would grind his teeth and stare and sometimes be filmed while appearing to be in deep thought.

Donnie was pleased with his expressions throughout the movie.

He said: "For research, I watched documentaries, the DRAGONBALL animation, and went to the zoo to visit monkeys.

"Stephen Chow's Sun Wukong performance was also important in my analysis."
