Former New Face finalist is now host of The Final 1

She is the host of TV singing competition The Final 1 on Channel 5.
But it was a totally different Vanessa Vanderstraaten when she was a finalist of The New Paper New Face in 2009.
She had a mohawk and barely knew how to walk in heels, reports The New Paper.

While her mohawk was part of an attempt to “reinvent‘ herself after a break-up, her inexperience with heels came from being 1.

69m tall and not needing the height boost.

But she decided to take advantage of her tall frame and ‘“ at her mother’s urging ‘“ auditioned for the New Face competition.

Since the competition, she graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in English literature and has taken up various acting roles.

Vanderstraaten played a pole dancer in the controversial local movie, Sex.

The 24-year-old said that being the host of a competition like The Final 1 has brought back fond memories of her time in the New Face competition.

She said: “I miss the friendships made during the competition.

“I sometimes envy the contestants on The Final 1 because although everyone knows it’s a competition and there can only be one winner, there’s still a sense of camaraderie and friendship.

“Everyone enjoys himself or herself immensely.

It was the same during my time in New Face.
