The list of nominees in the running for the various award catergories at this year's Star Awards raised a few eyebrows when it was released recently.

This year's nominations is dominated by the cast of The Dream Makers (志在四方), a 30-episode drama that aired in June last year, reported My Paper.

The drama saw 9 of its cast members nominated for the four major awards this year.

Chen Hanwei and Qi Yuwu are two of the cast members in the running for the Best Actor award, while Jeanette Aw, Rui En and Chen Liping are up for the Best Actress award.

Radio DJ Dennis Chew, who also stars in The Dream Makers, will face competition for the Best Supporting Actor award from co-stars Guo Liang and Shaun Chen.

Rebecca Lim is the final of the nine nominated for a Star Award this year, as she is in contention to win the Best Supporting Actress award.

While The Dream Makers are tipped to be a big winner at this year's award, there was a bigger piece of news awaiting observers -- the exclusion of Zoe Tay from the nomination list.

Tay was tipped by many to be in the list following her role in The Dream Makers but was apparently pipped to a spot there by Chen Liping.

Another big surprise was the nomination of Bryan Wong for the Best Actor award, which is his first in this category.

He won the nomination thanks to his performance in the drama series, Gonna Make It, and is glad that his first shot at the award came about due to a very fulfilling role.

"This role of mine is the best role I've had in my 20 years in this industry. I'm already very happy just to be nominated," he said.
