Outspoken Japanese actress Erika Sawajiri once topped Japanese polls for being the "least favourite woman" in the country. But that did not stop fashion photographer-turned-film-maker Mika Ninagawa from casting her in her new film Helter Skelter, which is based on a popular manga of the same name and portrays the cut-throat fashion modelling industry.Ninagawa, 40, says: "Erika may be perceived in the Japanese media and by the people as a 'scandalous' woman, but that is very similar to her character Lilico in the film, so I thought it would be interesting to match that."Sawajiri, who is of mixed Algerian-French and Japanese descent, has been reviled by the Japanese public ever since she appeared "rude" at a press conference six years ago promoting her movie Closed Note (2007).The Straits Times reported that for three years in a row from 2007 to 2009, she was voted in public polls surveying 1,000 Japanese women for being the No. 1 "least favourite woman" in the country.
