The late King of Pop's daughter has been hit by waves of criticism after photos of her smoking appeared on the internet.

Paris Jackson, 17, may be a celebrity, but the fact that 18 is the legal age for smoking in some parts of the United States remains.

Rocking ripped jeans and a printed vest top, the star was spotted lighting up a cigarette outside a hair salon, reports an article by WittyFeed.

However, instead of hiding away from the cameras, Paris freely smoked with her friends.

This sparked off an outburst of hate from netizens, with some making claims that no laws, or nothing would bother a celebrity

In response to the internet's reaction at her smoking in public, the star hit back at haters with an Instagram post saying that she has "nothing to prove".

"I get it, guys. I get it. Smoking isn't cool. I get it. Like me or hate me. I have nothing to prove to anyone, I am me. And I am happy."
