Not only has veteran Taiwanese singer Judy Ongg heard of local jazz singer Nathan Hartono, the pair even performed together at her Singapore concert eight years ago.

They performed two songs, It's Only A Paper Moon and Blue Moon, and Hartono also did a solo rendition of the Frank Sinatra classic Come Fly With Me.

She told The New Paper at a press conference on Tuesday (Sept 6): "(Nathan's) voice was a miracle and his presentation was wonderful. I had a really good time singing on stage with him."Ongg, 66, is back in town for a fundraising concert for The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.

Hartono, 25, is making waves on popular reality TV singing competition Sing! China, where he aced the blind auditions and chose Mandopop star Jay Chou as his mentor.

He later made it into Chou's team after the "battle round" and is preparing to go up against teams led by the three other celebrity coaches, Harlem Yu, Na Ying and Wang Feng.

Hartono was introduced to Ongg by Mr Lim Sek, chief executive of entertainment company Music & Movement, which helped organise Ongg's It's A Wonderful World Singapore concert in 2008.

Ongg said: "I was surprised at how a young man like Nathan can sing Frank Sinatra's songs like that...Mr Lim had suggested that the then-17-year-old be a special guest as the concert would have a jazz segment and Hartono was a promising new jazz talent.

"He's got a great voice and he's handsome, he's got everything. He has a big future waiting for him."

On his success on Sing! China, she added: "It's wonderful. He's going to make it."
