Christian Bale has given up the lead role in a biopic on Enzo Ferrari due to health concerns.

Known for his method acting techniques, Bale has decided to forgo the role and the substantial weight gain it would have required.

According to Elite Daily, the film was set to shoot this spring but it was too short a timeline for Bale to gain the necessary weight in a healthy way.

The 41-year-old has been known to be able to dramatically change his physical appearance for roles.

In 2004's The Machinist, his drastic weight loss was 60 pounds lighter from his starting weight.

He then returned to a healthy 180 pounds in only six weeks for his popular incarnation of Batman in Batman Begins.

He reportedly binged on pizza, ice cream and as many as five meals at one time for the rapid weight gain -- which ended up sending him to the doctor several times.

After filming for Batman Begins, he then dropped 30 pounds for his role as an heroin-addicted ex-boxing champion in The Fighter.

His yo-yo weight gain and loss finally paid off when he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter in 2011.
