Aaron Kwok received the award for Best Actor at the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards last Sunday (April 3).
However, his acceptance speech left netizens curious.
According to JayneStars, the Port of Call actor expressed surprised at winning the award and said he was not prepared to deliver a speech.
However, he did not forget to thank his fmaily and manager, Siu Mei, for supporting him through the years.
He added that he should also thank those who treated him badly:
"Because of you guys, I know I must strive to improve myself."
Netizens immediately began to speculate that he could have been referring to director Stanley Tong, who Aaron worked with in China Strike Force.
According to rumours at the time, the two fought on set and severed ties after the movie's release.
However, his manager has come forward to clarify Aaron's intention:
“Aaron had some unhappy experiences. He was referring to those people who had misunderstood and wronged him. He was just speaking his feelings. But this all happened in the past. Let’s not ask who. It really isn’t Director Tong. Lessons were learned. Everything that happened was a learning experience for Aaron. He is thankful to everyone who molded him into the person he is today.”
She refused to respond to rumours that Aaron had broken up with Moka Fang for being materialistic.
