The celebrity couple left fans heartbroken yesterday after news of their separation broke, following two years of marriage.
Their high-profile relationship gained controversy as many believed that they fell in love while filming the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004. Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston at that time.
TMZ reported that Jolie decided to end her marriage because she was "extremely upset" with the way Pitt has been parenting the kids and so decided to seek joint legal custody, but not joint physical custody. According to TMZ, Jolie also believes that her hubby’s drinking and pot-smoking is affecting their kids.
A startling article by Page Six claims that Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, after learning that Pitt was having an affair with his 'Allied' co-star, Marion Cotillard, 40.
"She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw," a source allegedly told The Post.
However, a source close to Cotillard denied the Pitt affair rumors and insisted that she is still with her long-term partner, French actor and director Guillaume Canet.
In addition to the alleged affair, it is said that Jolie was also "sick and tired of constantly sparring over their lifestyles".
While she apparently wanted to quit Hollywood and focus on her humanitarian work, Pitt "perferred Tinseltown and its parties".
A source was quoted as saying, "The older she gets, the more serious she becomes, and she is sick of the Hollywood thing. He wants to make movies. She doesn’t. It’s a fundamental difference. It’s how you live your life."
