WARNING: MAJOR GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS AHEAD.
Game of Thrones fans were completely crushed after finding out about the origins one of the show's well-loved characters -- Hodor.
The friendly giant literally says only one word ("Hodor") throughout six seasons of the series inspired from George R.R. Martin's books.
Hodor was initially a lively chap named Wylis, and as Bran Stark witnesses, "Hodor speaks!"
So what happened that made him only say "Hodor?"
Viewers finally find out the reason why in the Season 6 Episode 5 "The Door".
While Bran was using his Greenseer powers to see visit the past, the group in the cave was facing an attack by the White Walkers.
An adult Hodor practically could not move out of fear.
The Stark boy wargs into Hodor to take control of him, which created a link between the past and present Hodor.
In what could be the series' most traumatic reveal, Wylis practically dedicates his life to that one moment -- sacrificing himself for Bran by "holding the door" so he could get away.
As poor Hodor gets torn apart by the White Walkers, the young Hodor collapses in a fit, yelling, "Hold the door!" over and over again until it becomes "Hodor".
Heartbroken fans have come up with several pretty hilarious reactions to this epic reveal. Check them out in the gallery below.
