Step aside, female model-DJs. A Japanese restaurant-lounge, Haru, is spicing up the nightlife scene here by inviting Japanese Adult Video (AV) actresses to spin the decks.

In the last few months, two sexy Japanese adult entertainment stars, Namiki Yu and Misaki Rola, have already hit our shores, performing at Haru on separate occasions.

Tonight and tomorrow, AV actress Rei Kawashima will be dropping the beats on the decks in Haru, from 11pm till late.

Other than deejaying at the Magazine Road club, the 24-year-old will also put up a short cultural Japanese dance performance. Mr Lee Jia Jun, 27, owner of Haru, told The New Paper:

"Getting the AV actresses to make appearances here is a novelty. It's value-added entertainment for our mostly Japanese expat clientele."

He added: "The performances by the AV actresses are not sleazy. They will usually do more commercialised acts such as hosting, dancing, singing or DJ-ing."

The past two appearances by the AV actresses have attracted a capacity crowd of more than 150 people in the lounge.

Mr Lee revealed that the club pays the actresses a five-figure appearance fee and that he is looking to make it a bi-monthly event.

Haru is not the only nightlife establishment here that has such gimmicks to draw customers.

Last year, the now-defunct Club Lava spent $40,000 inviting busty Chinese model-actress Gan Lu Lu, 28, to make an appearance for its opening night. She is infamous for a video of her in the shower, which went viral in China and the region in 2011.

More than 500 fans turned up at the club that night. In 2011, the now-defunct Asian fusion dance club Avatar at Marina Mandarin Hotel had similar events and invited Hong Kong soft porn star Flora Cheung to interact with club goers.

A spokesman from marketing agency E-Focus Strategy, which handled the media and marketing for Club Lava and Club Avatar, said that bringing in AV actresses was interesting.

He said: "The nightlife scene here is getting more competitive and saturated. Doing this makes the place stand out from the many clubs out there. Many nightclubs in China are doing similar things and they are doing very well.

"However, Haru needs to bring in these acts consistently so that customers will keep going back. This can then ensure the longevity of the venue."

Nightlife revellers TNP spoke to were keen on catching the actresses' performance.

Freelance designer Marie Tan, 26, said: "I see it as a regular clubbing night but with adult actresses as the guest DJ. It's an interesting idea. I might ask my friends to check it out."

Sales engineer Steven Wong, 31, said: "The actresses are considered celebrities in their own right... Usually, we see male DJs on the decks. It will be refreshing to see a female DJ spinning, let alone a pretty AV actress."
