Pregnancy rumors arose shortly after Yang Mi (楊冪) and Hawick Lau (劉愷威) announced their marriage on November 13. Although the couple has dated for two years, some are still shocked by the sudden news and believe that the two are holding a shotgun wedding.
The pregnancy speculation was fueled by Yang Mi’s recent withdrawal from a Derek Yee (爾冬陞) film. With her starring role opposite Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒), the film could have further raised Yang Mi’s mainstream status.
Allegedly, the actress declined the role after discovering that she is pregnant, choosing to put her soaring career on hold to focus on building a family, reports a Jayne Stars article.
As with similar news of this nature, both Yang Mi and Hawick are quick to deny the pregnancy rumors. The couple shared that they have already registered their marriage for some time, though chose to announce it only after they have confirmed their wedding date.
Currently, both Yang Mi and Hawick are busy with work, and promised to continue their careers post-marriage. As for baby plans, the couple has decided to let nature take its course, and will definitely make an announcement when the time comes.
Hawick’s father, TVB actor Lau Dan (劉丹), is certainly in a great mood over his son’s marriage. Happy about Hawick’s choice, Lau Dan has openly praised Yang Mi on several occasions, and has defended her when she was accused of dumping Hawick for Nicholas last year.
Regarding his daughter-in-law, Lau Dan said, “I am very satisfied that she has joined our family. She has a good upbringing and is very cultured, plus she is respectful of her elders. Before I had given her ninety-five points, now she is worth 105!”
Lau Dan also denied the pregnancy allegations, though is looking forward to becoming a grandfather. He added that the newlyweds will address these rumors at their wedding on January 8, 2014.
