Wreck it Ralph's Vanellope was inspired by AKB48 member

Vanellope, the young misunderstood heroine of Wreck it Ralph, bears a startling resemblance to AKB48's Maeda Ami -- from her hairstyle down to her facial expressions.

Fans of the animated movie may recall that the theme song of the film, Sugar Rush, was performed by AKB48.

For much of the film, Vanellope's hairstyle greatly resembled Ami's trademark ponytail.

At one point of the movie however, Vanellope trades her ponytail for a Shokkaku (antenna) hairstyle which is unique to Japanese idols.

Again, Maeda Ami is well-known for wearing her hair in this method.

A report on www.akb48wrapup.com suggests that this was done to spur sales in Japan.

This is borne out by the fact that the film (which goes by the title Sugar Rush in Japan, just like the song) has performed extremely well in Japan, reaching 1 million viewers just 9 days after it’s premier on Mar 23.

Box office revenue also has exceeded 1,200 million yen (12 million USD).
