When people copme across a Hollywood star, it's easy for them to go 'oh, just another pretty face' though that judgement should not be applied to Katie Chang, the Asian actress who's starring alongside Emma Watson in The Bling Ring.

For the one-quarter Korean lass from Illinois is something of a prehistoric geek -- she proclaimed her love for palaeontology, the study of dinosaurs in her audition tape for The Bling Ring -- and will study at Ivy League college Columbia University after her application got accepted, reported The Straits Times.

Aside from dinosaurs and writing, Chang also had her eye on trendsetting, having once dreamed of being a fashion designer though it seems acting has come to the fore for her now.

In the upcoming Sofia Coppola-helmed film, Chang plays Rebecca, a leader of a teenage gang that walks casually into Hollywood celebrities’ homes and leaves with US$3 million (S$3.8 million) worth of designer goods, jewellery, art and more.

When asked about her character, she described her as "the wild child (who's) very manipulative and selfish" and someone who feels material possessions will validate her.

The Bling Ring is now showing in cinemas.
