Chanteuse Mariah Carey has been drawing flak this week over her appearance at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in New York.
She was slated to perfom her Christmas hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You, at Tuesday's scheduled pre-recording of the annual event, now in its 82nd year.
But three hours later, fans waiting in the freezing rain learnt that TV network NBC called her segment for the evening, reported ABC News.
On her Twitter site, the contrite diva apologised:
"Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you".
Celebrity gossip site TMZ claims that the former American Idol judge was held up discussing on the phone with her lawyers about her divorce from actor and comedian Nick Cannon.
Her publicist told ABC News on Thursday: "I don’t comment on her personal life. She would never intentionally disappoint her fans."
To make up to fans for her no-show, the singer performed live during the Dec 3 telecast.
The move backfired.
She opened the show wearing a neckline-plunging red gown, but failed to detract from her lacklustre act.
TV Guide, in its short review, said: "All we want for Christmas is for Mariah Carey to lip-sync along to her original, prerecorded version of All I Want for Christmas Is You."
Gawker said her performance was "disappointing" and Deadspin posted an unedited raw version of her vocal track, calling it a "disaster".
