TAIPEI - Fans are poring over photos of singer Wang Leehom's wife which have popped up on the Internet.
According to a report in The Straits Times, the interest in Columbia University doctoral student Li Jinglei came after Wang revealed their relationship last Wednesday and then news of their marriage a day later.
Surprised fans are in particular scrutinising a Weibo photo posted by Wang last Saturday for clues of any unannounced pregnancy. The photo shows Wang, 37, and Li, 27, sitting between his parents, and with other family members present, at a Thanksgiving gathering over the weekend. "Happy Thanksgiving", Wang wrote. "Thanks for each day."
Japanese-Taiwanese Li, also known as Michiko Nishimura, looked trim but it was noted that a pet dog was sitting strategically near her belly. Wang, who married Li on Nov 27 in New York, has not denied talk that she might be pregnant.
A photo of her in pigtails and taken while she was in a Taiwan primary school appeared in Apple Daily Taiwan yesterday. It also printed a picture of the 17-year-old, with blonde locks and in a revealing tank top, out on a date with Wang in 2003. Wang, then 27, at that time said she was a "fan".
Other photos showed her in heavy make-up in New York in 2011 with singer Rainie Yang at a gathering - a far cry from the clean-faced, wholesome looking bride seen in a photo posted by Wang of them together on Wednesday.
Li is careful, humorous, kind and clever, said Chinese actress Tang Wei, who has been filming upcoming Hollywood film Cyber with Wang in America. "I became good friends with her while shooting Cyber. I told Wang straight off that she is perfect for him."
