According to Zee News, Rajendran,86, who started off his career as a theatre artiste, later ventured into Tamil cinema and carved a place for himself with his impeccable dialogue delivery.
His notable films include 'Parasakthi', the debut movie of veteran actor 'Sivaji' Ganesan, 'Poompuhar', 'Marakka Mudiuma,' 'Kumudam', 'Naanum Oru Penn,' and 'Raja Desingu', among others.
He has acted in many family dramas and was fondly addressed as 'Latchiya Nadigar' (Actor of Principles) by his fans.
Condoling Rajendran's death, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, also a yesteryear actress, said he had carved a special place for himself in Tamil cinema which cannot be filled by anyone else.
The actor had earned fans through his clear diction, she said in a statement while recalling his illustrious career in both cinema and politics.
"His demise is a great loss to Tamil cinema," she said. MDMK leader Vaiko also condoled Rajendran's death.
Meanwhile, the Tamil film industry announced suspending operations for half a day today in respect of the deceased actor.
Hailing Rajendran as a 'guide' to many professionals, a joint statement from various unions described his death as a 'great loss' to the industry.
