US reporter asks question on Twitter -- but never expected what came next

A few days ago, HuffingtonPost reporter Ryan J. Reilly took to Twitter to clarify some of his doubts -- which he quickly realised was a big mistake. 

Reporting from a scene at Ferguson, he found some objects he could not identify.

The Ferguson protests revolve around violence and rioting at the state of Missouri in USA, after an unarmed 18-year-old black teenager was fatally shot by a Ferguson police officer a total of 6 times.

Angry crowds have been staging protests to the incideent, with police resorting to using tear gas and rubber bullets to control the horde. 

Reporter Ryan J. Reilly apparently found some 'debris' -- in the form of earplugs. He asked on Twitter:
