Stephen Chow Sing Chi and Mainland movie production company 'Huayi Brothers' went to court in Beijing over the film JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CONQUERING THE DEMONS (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN).
The issue was over a bonus and the trial began yesterday, reports Hktopten.
The plaintiff, Wei Ying company (Chow's holding company), claimed that during the 2012 production of the film JOURNEY TO THE WEST, Chow had an oral agreement with Huayi that if the box office take exceeded 500 million yuan, the film company would have to pay a box office bonus.
The film eventually made 1.248 billion yuan but Sing Yeh did not receive any bonus.
Huayi claimed that the box office revenue did not reach 500 million yuan because of cinemas circuits, and thus pleaded with the court to throw out the case.
