SMTown concert stars order $10,000 worth of food in Singapore

Source: The New PaperPhotos: Zinkie Aw for STOMP, AsiaOne, Internet, Running Into The Sun, TNP, InternetCall them Super Snackers.For the SMTown Live World Tour III last Friday night at The Float@Marina Bay, $10,000 has been spent on snacks alone for the K-pop stars.Like kids in a candy store, these K-popsters have requested for raisin biscuits from Japan, Korean rice puffs and the orange flour crackers that are found in mixed nuts.Super Junior love their sweets, and one of their requests is for chocolates - loads of them.And like marathon runners, the hunks have also asked for bananas to keep their energy up in between performances, so five bunches will be sent backstage.Apart from the popular Super Junior, Girls' Generation, Kangta, BoA, TVXQ, SHINee, f(x) and EXO also caught flights into Singapore last Thursday.The bulk of the stars arrived at 2.45pm, with the rest catching later flights - 6pm and midnight.They stayed at The Ritz-Carlton hotel, with their crew housed at the Marina Mandarin.Concert organiser Running Into The Sun (RITS) told The New Paper that the artistes had a "few special requests" for their stint here.Said a spokesman: "I remember the last time Girls' Generation were here, they had a sudden craving for burgers and we rushed out to get some for them."This time round, they want lighted mirrors (mirrors with light bulbs all over them) for each of the nine girls."More importantly, BoA and Girls' Generation have requested that their bottled water be left open and with a straw in each so that when they sip, they won't smudge their lipsticks."BoA first did this for her concert in Japan years ago and Girls' Generation have followed suit."For the stars' midnight snacks, it's a specific brand of Korean instant noodles - 200 bowls of Nongshim.Super Junior fell in love with ice kachang and chilli crabs when they first tried it on a trip here, and are looking forward to having lots of both again.Drinks that tickle the stars' fancy include Pocari Sweat, Red Bull and a multitude of soft drinks, such as Coca-Cola and green tea.There will also be a total of 1,000 towels - they have to be pure white - backstage.BoA alone will be downing 20 bottles of 330ml Evian water daily.Hot water, tea and coffee will also be prepared in abundance to quench their thirst.If these seem a lot, it's because the 40 Korean stars in town for the show are being accompanied by a 200-strong entourage.Every artiste, even those in the groups, has his own manager.The five-figure sum spent on snacks is part of the $5 million cost of the entire production.So far, the concert is 99 per cent sold out with 23,000 tickets - ranging from $168 to $268 - already snapped up.Said the RITS spokesman: "We chose to have the concert at The Float@Marina Bay as the stars could only perform in Singapore for one night."We knew that there would be more than 20,000 fans who would want to attend such a big concert so we needed a place that could accommodate the audience."It's a rain or shine event."The concert will only be stalled if there is lightning."Ponchos will be distributed to the fans in the event of rain, said RITS."It's actually quite dangerous for the artistes as there are many holes on the stage where acts can pop up from, so we have also spent $1,000 just on luminous tapes (marking off these areas) so that they can be seen clearly at night."To ensure the safety of the stars, special routes to and from The Ritz-Carlton have been mapped out.And to ensure that they hit the stage in the pink, the entertainers will all be feasting on the same dishes - Korean bento boxes with rice, meat and kimchi.Check out the gallery below to find out the food that the stars of the SMTown concert had requested for.
