This sizzling and intense R21 S'pore film will be released -- uncut

30 November 2014 / 1 year 10 months ago

This Singaporean film directed by Sam Loh contains sex, violence and lots of nudity -- and will actually be released totally uncut by censorship at the Singapore International Film Festival.

Speaking about his film Lang Tong, meaning 'nice soup' in Cantonese, director Loh said he was caught by surprise when it passed uncut, because he did not try to self-censor at all.

He said to the The Business Times, "To be honest, I really didn't expect it to be passed, (so) I guess you can say that censorship here has changed a bit from 10 years ago when I made Outsiders."

Miss World Singapore 2014 3rd runner-up, Angeline Yap, stars in it.  When asked why she decided to take on such a racy film, she answered on her Facebook page:

"Because Normal is boring. Enough of normal Heartlander comedies and dramas, "Lang Tong" is a whole new take on Singapore Films targeted at a niche audience.

"Many "friends" and strangers asked me why "Miss World Singapore 3rd Runner Up dare to act this kind of role". I feel there's a need to clarify although it's none of their business.

"Just because no one is daring enough, it doesn't mean it can't be done. Now is already the 21st Modern Century. We are not living in our ancestors olden days.

"And this doesn't make me any less worthy than anyone else. It only shows that I'm strong and brave enough."

On the SGIFF page, the synopsis for the film goes:

"Zach (William Lawandi), a remorseless serial womaniser and con man, meets his match in Li Ling (Vivienne Tseng), an alluring and well-to-do woman who makes a wicked bowl of pork rib soup.

"Things take an unexpected turn when Zach meets Li Ling’s younger sister, the drop-dead gorgeous Li Er (Angeline Yap). Soon enough, Zach turns his lecherous attentions towards Li Er, and they begin an affair behind Li Ling’s back.

"Li Er convinces Zach to help her execute a heinous plot to murder her older sister, whom she blames for causing her mother’s death. However, things aren't as simple as they seem.

"Drawing inspiration from Takashi Miike’s Audition (1999) and Fruit Chan’s Dumplings (2004), Lang Tong is Sam Loh’s second feature film after his 2004 debut Outsiders."
