Renowned S'pore musician Iskandar Mirza Ismail dies of cancer at 58

Renowned local musician, composer and music director Iskandar Mirza Ismail died of lung and brain cancer this morning (Nov 1), The Straits Times reports.  He was 58.

The Cultural Medallion winner, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, started his music career in the 1970s. He has composed, arranged and been music director for many National Day Parades since the late 1980s.

According to the report via AsiaOne, he also arranged the music behind internationally staged musicals including Snow. Wolf. Lake and Chang & Eng, as well as for popular Mandarin pop stars like Jacky Cheung and Aaron Kwok.

According to family members, he died at his condominium.

He is survived by his wife aged 60, and two grown-up children.
