Bad reviews - so what?
Michael Bay has told MTV that critics of his Transformers franchise - and in particular the latest installment - can hate all they want.
“They love to hate, and I don’t care; let them hate,” he said. “They’re still going to see the movie! I think it’s good to get a little tension. Very good.”
“I used to get bothered by it,” he continued, “but I think it’s good to get the dialogue going. It makes me think, and it keeps me on my toes, so it’s good.”
Like water flowing off his back, Bay has shrugged off an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes rating of 18% for Age of Extinction (the worst of the quartet of films) to crush the box office since its Friday debut.
Variety reported that the film earned US$41.6 million in the US for the biggest opening of the year, and is on track for a US$104 million plus weekend debut - also a record for 2014.
