Mediacorp actress told to strip and pay $100 by modelling agent

MediaCorp actress Silver Ang (above) had a scary experience at Orchard Road when she was 18.
A man claiming he was from a modelling agency approached her with the interest of signing her on.

He also claimed that local actress Joanne Peh was from his agency before she became a celebrity.

The man, who had a receipt book with him, then said he wanted to take photos of Ang and he led her into an office room.

He said he wanted to see her body.

"I was shocked, but he said he wants to know how professional I am, as there will be some shoots that will require me to strip and he needs to know that I'm comfortable with that.

"After some back and forth with him trying to convince her to strip, he said "never mind" and asked her to pay a $100 admin fee.

Ang was incredulous.

"First you want me to strip and then you want my money? Then I told him, 'It's okay, I think modelling is not my thing,' and left," she said.

"He didn't seem dodgy at first, and maybe he gets a cheap thrill of watching girls strip," said Ang, 27.

"A proper modelling agency wouldn't ask a girl to strip during the first meeting.

"Usually such tasks will be asked of a model after working with her for some time and you know that she's comfortable with you.

"A professional photographer won't have such requests during the first shoot."
