Taiwanese personality Makiyo says she has been plagued by nightmares of tragedies and escapes from ordeals every day after her cancer-stricken mother's condition took a turn for the worst.

After being diagnosed with fourth-stage lung cancer, Makiyo's mother was initially diagnosed with having four months to live after she decided to stop going for chemotherapy in May last year.

She said then: "I don't want to be warded in a hospital. If the worst really happens, I don't want to be a burden to my family."

While she has put up a strong fight and outlasted the doctor's diagnosis, she was dealt a blow last month when a screening revealed fluids building up in her lungs, causing her condition to deterioate.

The recent developments has affected Makiyo, who said: "Although my mum's mood has become better, and her pain seemingly lessened after stopping chemotherapy, her breathing has become panting.

"I get nightmares daily now, if not about a loved one leaving us then about getting out of an ordeal. It's making me anxious."
