A few celebrity couples appeared at MediaCorp's Star Awards Show 2 on Sunday night holding each other's hands, including Christopher Lee and Fann Wong and Zheng Geping and Hong Huifang.
But there were no doubts which pair every reporter was looking for: Joanne Peh and her recently announced beau, Qi Yuwu, reported The Straits Times.
When a photographer shouted out, "I see Qi Yuwu", hordes of reporters immediately swarmed around the couple.
Clearly, their announcement that they were dating could not have come at a more opportunistic time - it took place about a month before Star Awards, the local TV station's biggest night of the year.
The two not only appeared unruffled by the immense media attention; they seemed to be openly courting it.
When Qi, 36, said he was not disappointed to have been left out of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes winners' list, Peh's response was: "Of course I'm disappointed that he didn't get in but he's already the best in my heart.
"And to widespread speculation that he had lost favour with fans in a backlash against his relationship with her, she smiled and said: "We don't focus too much on the bad things.
What's important is that we received a lot of blessings and that really touched me.
"Moreover, their hands were locked most of the time at the, post-show party.
While they say they would like to advance their relationship slowly, her words pushed in the opposite direction.
Collecting her Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste Award, she said: "I want to thank my family.
I've worried you guys in the past but now you don't have to worry anymore.
I also want to thank my company, which has allowed me to find my true happiness.
"That the short speech alluded to her romance with Qi was undeniable, but she insisted that she did not mean to tell her family that she had found the man she wanted to settle down with.
"No lah! It doesn't refer to marriage plans, it's just that I feel at stable and at peace now so they don't have to worry about me.
"How did they celebrate her 30th birthday, which took place last Thursday (April 25)?.
Qi said: "We do a lot of 'drama' things in dramas already, so we kept it quite simple in real life.
We just went out for a meal together, with her parents and with her alone."
