Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the "Police Story 3" film had earned international actor Jackie Chan his 'datukship' yesterday, reports Malaysian website Astro.

In a series of tweets, Tengku Adnan defended the ‘datukship’ conferred to the actor in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day, adding that Chan has strong fan base in the country.

He also said Chan can promote Malaysia, particularly Kuala Lumpur though his films.

Chan whose real name is Chan Song Kang was among the 71 individuals who received the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) award which carries the title 'Datuk'.

This received mixed reactions from various quarters who questioned Chan’s contribution to the country while some argued that the title should have been conferred to a more deserving individual.
