Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna were among the big winners at the American Music Awards last night (24.11.13).
The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' hitmaker earned the night's top prize for Artist of the Year and she also took home three additional awards, including Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favourite Country Female Artist and Favourite Country Album for 'Red'.
Meanwhile, 'Mirrors' crooner Justin won three gongs following his hugely successful musical comeback earlier this year. His awards haul included Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favourite Soul/R&B Album for 'The 20/20 Experience'.
'Diamonds' singer Rihanna was overcome with emotion as she took to the stage to accept the first ever Icon Award at the tender age of 25, which was presented to her by her mother Monica Braithwaite.
Monica said: "I'm so proud of you. I know your journey hasn't been an easy one, but tonight I admire and applaud you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused. It's amazing how you manage to take good from all your experiences."
Other big winners at the AMAs included boy band One Direction, who won two awards - Favourite Pop/Rock Band and Favourite Pop/Rock Album for 'Take Me Home' - Ariana Grande, who earned the New Artist of the Year prize, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who won two awards for Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for 'The Heist'.
The star-studded bash, which took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, saw performances from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin, Ariana and more.
