Gmail's April Fool's joke involving Girls' Generation

Gmail rolled out a new feature, the Gmail Shelfie, as an April Fool’s joke this year.

The Shelfie is a portmanteau of the phrase 'SHareable sELFIE', describing the selfie photos you can set as your Gmail background and share with others, reports Soompi

Gmail wrote on its blog, “With just a few clicks, your mom, your aunt, or that girl you have a crush on can set your Shelfie as their Gmail theme so they can enjoy checking, reading, and writing emails while seeing your friendly face in the background.”

To promote this feature and continue the April Fools’ prank, Gmail announced trending shelfies throughout the day that included Katy Perry and Miss Piggy and Girls’ Generation.

Gmail wrote on Twitter, 'Trending Now: @GirlsGeneration. Taking a #GmailShelfie for S♡NEs worldwide after performing Mr.Mr.'

Even though it's a prank, it’s not a bad idea to have Girls’ Generation smiling at you every time you open Gmail.
