WINNER member Mino is under fire due to controversial lyrics rapped during the latest episode of "Show Me The Money 4".
On the latest episode of "Show Me The Money 4", Mino and Kim Yong Soo participated in a rap battle against each other. A line rapped by Mino has created a firestorm of controversy amongst the Korean public for its misogynistic language.
"Mino sniping the girls. Spread your legs like you're at the gynecologist," the controversial lyrics state.
While vulgar language is commonly used on the program, many Koreans said that Mino's lyrics went too far.
Numerous complaints were submitted, and on July 13, the Korean Communications Standards Commission announced it will be conducting an investigation into the show's use of vulgarity in its broadcasts.
In response to the controversy, Mino has released a statement via Facebook apologizing for the lyrics used during the program.
"Hello. This is WINNER's Song Min Ho. I'm reflecting deeply on the lyrics that caused a controversy on "Show Me the Money 4". I'm very regretful and apologetic.
"In a highly competitive environment surrounded by talented rappers, I felt the need to select more provocative words and lyrics than the other contestants which led to this mistake.
"After I came to my senses I realized just how wrong I was and I'm embarrassed and ashamed.
"I want to sincerely apologize one more time to everyone who felt uncomfortable from my wrongful expression and I will try to revive my mistake through making better music."
While the public's response has been strongly negative against Mino, "Show Me The Money 4" approved of his rapping. Mino beat Kim Yong Soo and will be moving on to the 3rd round of the competition.
