Ex-Marine amputee injured in combat now embraces new life -- as an underwear model

Five years ago, Alex Minsky was a marine who lost his leg during combat.

Minsky was lucky to be alive after his Humvee hit an IED in Afghanistan in 2009.

After a 47-day coma and partial leg amputation, the ex-Marine was ready for the next phase of his life. Minsky hit a terrible downward spiral, turning to alcohol for comfort, especially after his younger brother unexpectedly died, reported elitoshpere.

According to Elite Daily, although Minskey was debilitated and depressed, he began regularly attending a gym.

He then ran into photographer Tom Cullis there -- whom Minsky thought was hitting on him at first.

He is now a successful underwear model who has modelled for various magazines like Men's health. 25-year-old Minsky attributes his success to hard work and endless determination.

The best part? He’s not ashamed to show off his prosthetic leg — it’s a part of him.

Minskey just landed the cover of the September issue of Out magazine, and the model even has a role in promotional images for the upcoming film “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.”
