Hong Kong actress Esther Kwan has revealed that she suffered two miscarriages in the span of two years.
When she found out about the first miscarriage in 2004, she told only her husband, Nick Cheung (張家輝), who was away in Shanghai for filming at that time, reported ihktv.com.
A year later, she suffered her second miscarriage.
Although Nick put up a strong front, Esther remembered seeing him cry secretly behind a stairwell after he found out about it.
The couple, who had to fend out rumours of a rift in their marriage recently, had hoped for their 7-year-old daughter, Esther, to be able to have a younger sibling but that has been put to rest now.
"We’ve tried for many years. We really wanted to have another child, really wanted Brittany to have another younger brother or sister.
"But now, the sentence ends with a period! We’re done trying!"
For now, Esther is determined to provide the best for her daughter, who she described as a 'rare gift from the heavens'.
She has enrolled Brittany in an international school and took her to countless enrichment classes.
Having never left her daughter’s side -- even if she was going to school or even to amusement parks -- Esther may come across as 'Tiger mom' to some parents but she shot down that suggestion and insisted that basic ideological education is very important for a young child.
"Young children need to be guided and taught at an appropriate time. If a sudden incident occurs, that incident can be used as an opportunity to teach the child positive ways of behaving.
"If I am not with her all the time, I will never know when and how to teach and explain to her the positive messages. No one wants to raise a delinquent child", she said.
