In September, Ella Koon (官恩娜) revealed that she was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy on the right side of her face.

Bell’s palsy is a form of facial paralysis that is a result from the dysfunction of a cranial nerve.

Ella attended an event for the Hong Kong Harbin Ice Festival on October 3. She disclosed that she is about 50 percent recovered from her facial paralysis.

Her mood has also improved. Ella said her trip to France a few weeks ago was relaxing and invigorating.

“I requested for a vacation from my company and went to the outskirts of France with a female friend. My boyfriend was busy, so he wasn’t able to come. Hopefully, I could fully recover in about a month or more.”

Ella said her facial paralysis did not show any improvements until 20 days after she was diagnosed with the disease.

She was in a very upset mood at the time of the diagnosis, but now, Ella said she feels grateful.

Ella received over 200 messages from close friends and colleagues to wish her well. She also thanked Liza Wang (汪明荃) and Now TV executive Ho Lai Chuen (何麗全), who gave her traditional Chinese medicine formulas.

Ella is apologetic that she could not reply to her messages one by one.

As for her thoughts on Hong Kong’s Occupy Central protest, Ella said it is upsetting. She believes that freedom and democracy are dreams that everyone wishes to have.

She hopes everything will be resolved peacefully. However, Ella will only lend her support to the protesters in spirit.

“I’m unwell and still taking medication. Other than work, I should stay at home to get as much rest as I can.”
