Taiwanese pop star Ella Chen, who returned here for the Chinese New Year celebration, was surprised to know that she is now a ku mah (aunt) to twin girls. Her father-in-law James Lai said his daughter, in her 30s, gave birth to the twins about three weeks ago.Chen, a member of the pop group S.H.E, had spent time cuddling her new nieces, he added. "She was in Malacca on Feb 14 as she had to attend a spring festival event in Beijing at the invitation of China's CCTV channel. She could not make it here for the first day," he said."She also had to go back to her hometown in Ping Tung, Taiwan, during the New Year." Describing the family's New Year gathering as "very auspicious and blissful", Lai said: "It was a joyous occasion for all of us, especially with the presence of the twins, who are my first grandchildren, and with Ella."This was the first time that Chen, who married Malaccan Alvin Lai in May, spent two days of the Chinese New Year celebration with her in-laws. News of Chen spending her New Year here had set the local media abuzz with reporters attempting to see her at her in-laws' home on the first day of the celebration. The Star reported that her visit was kept a low-key affair so that her fans would not swarm her in-laws' house in Ujong Pasir here.
