China's Weibo queen Yao Chen gets married in New Zealand

Photos: Matakauri LodgeYao Chen is like Asia's Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber in terms of internet popularity, and she just tied the knot in Queenstown, New Zealand.The award-winning Chinese actress, 33, wed her cinematographer fiance Cao Yu at luxury hideaway Matakauri Lodge, amid breathtaking views of the lake and mountains.She kept her wedding under wraps until their special day on Saturday, November 17; and news of the celebrity wedding sparked a social media frenzy throughout China.The ceremony took place at St. Peter's Church in downtown Queenstown and the reception followed at Matakauri Lodge.Yao Chen, who has already starred in various films and TV series such as "My Own Swordman" is internationally known as the "Queen of the Microbloggers". Her Weibo microblog (China's Twitter equivalent) counts over 25.9 million followers, and she is the third most followed micro-blogger in the world after Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.Managing Director Julian "Jay" Robertson commented on the celebrity event, "We're absolutely delighted that Yao Chen and Cao Yu chose Matakauri Lodge to celebrate their special day and to know that the lodge and its special setting will be a lasting memory for the couple and their family and friends for years to come".
