Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) may have been a wild child during her younger days, but she still understood the importance of respecting her seniors.

According to an article in Jayne Stars, on a recent radio program, she revealed that she had once violated this social rule when she shouted at Anita Mui (梅艷芳), and explained the reason behind her ill manners.

Cecilia and Anita became good friends after filming 2001′s Wu Yen <鍾無艷>. While Cecilia had always treated Anita with respect, she revealed on a recent Commercial Radio program that she helplessly had to lecture Anita over concerns for her health.

Despite being weakened by her battle with cervical cancer, Anita held her fortieth birthday party in October 2003, which was just two months before her passing. Cecilia attended the party along with dozens of celebrity guests. Knowing Anita’s poor condition, friend Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家輝) advised some from the group to ban Anita from drinking alcohol that night.

Cecilia volunteered to return birthday toasts on Anita’s behalf, drinking for most of the evening. Unfortunately, her good intentions angered Anita, who very openly expressed her frustrations. Cecilia recalled, “Mui Jeh angrily lashed out at me in front of all these people. I stood firm and did not allow her to drink, but she did so anyway.”

Worried about Anita’s health, Cecilia could not hold back her own frustrations any longer and also openly lectured her senior.

Although she feels a bit ashamed of her actions, she still believes that it was the right thing to do at the moment. Cecilia said, “Even though juniors should not behave this way, I did so only out of real concern for her.”
