Ayumi Hamasaki’s latest album “Colours” sold a mere 39,295 copies in its first week of release, making it the worst album sales of the star’s once blooming career.
According to jpopasia, the album placed a low 5th on the Oricon album chart.
Ayumi’s sales numbers have been in steady decline for years.
The poor performance for this album can be attributed to stiff competition and the lack of promotions of the album.
Prior to “Colours”, Ayumi’s worst performance on the Oricon weekly charts is the 2nd place with her 2008 album “Guilty” and 2012 album “Party Queen”.
Last year, Hamasaki's "LOVE again" was the first album from the artist not to sell over 100,000 copies.
With her first week sales for "Colours" even lower than "LOVE again", breaking 100,000 with her latest album doesn't seem likely.
