Singapore very nearly missed out on having a wining feature film at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards if things played out differently earlier in Ilo Ilo director Anthony Chen's career.
According to a My Paper report, Chen, who also won the Best Director award for his work, almost signed on to be an actor with local television station Channel U after he acted in one of the station's production.
He was offered a contract after his exploits, and was about to sign on to become an actor with the station when the channel underwent a change of ownership.
The contract was never signed as a result.
In an interview, Chen said that he was lucky not to have gone down that career path for he would not have been able to make movies then.
