The controversial Yulin Dog Meat Festival has a new critic -- Jay Chou.
Jay, upset by pictures of a man who deliberately threatened to kill a dog if no one came forward to buy it, posted the following comment on Weibo:
"What kind of absurd holiday is this! You can see someone saying that if people don't buy these dogs he'll kill them, and onlookers just laugh. Please stop this deplorable behaviour."
Addressing the man directly, he added, "How about I do the same to you?"
The comments caused an upwelling of voices denouncing the festival, which is increasingly becoming known for the antics of its vendors.
In particular, the tactic of threatening to kill dogs unless dog lovers come forward to buy them started after a group of dog lovers waylaid and bought an entire truckload of live dogs on their way to the festival.
Sensing an opportunity to 'cut out the middle man', dog vendors have resorted to such tactics to sell more dogs.
