Chinese actress Michelle Ye revealed that she has frozen her eggs, not once but twice to ensure she can have a baby at a later date, My Paper reported.
With the topic of egg-freezing among China's female celebrities a hot topic in the Chinese media recently, Ye revealed that she has done two operations to retrieve her eggs, with the first retrieval performed three years ago.
The process, known as oocyte cryopreservation, is when a woman's eggs (oocytes) are extracted, frozen and stored. When ready to be used again, the eggs can be thawed, fertilized and transferred to the uterus.
The 35-year-old Hong Kong-based actress, who is known to be dating renowned Chinese stylist "Mr Xiao Mo", added: "To guarantee success, I've done the operation twice. Now women can be released from the pressure (of bearing children) and enjoy their life and work, I think it's great."
Ye was recently in the news after her complaint about bad service at a high-end Shanghai restaurant was picked up by the media.
When asked by reporters if her parents are pressuring her to get married, she simply smiled and said she'd "let nature take its course and leave it to fate".
Ye's boyfriend Xiao Mo had publicly declared their relationship in a Weibo post on June 18, after reports surfaced of the pair kissing and holding hands in Shanghai, reported Asian Pop News.
He posted on his microblog account: "Thank you God for letting this wonderful woman enter my life. She is a sincere and kind woman and like everyone else, she has been waiting and longing for love. In future days, we will experience and share this positive energy in our lives. I'd like to thank everyone for supporting Michelle, and I will love and cherish her wholeheartedly."
