What were you doing when you were 12 or 13?

The three members of metal band Unlocking The Truth, two of whom are 13 years old with the last member being 12, have just landed a US$1.8 million (S$2.2 million) record deal with Sony after a video of them busking in New York's Times Square went viral on YouTube, reported the New York Post.

Drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12, guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, and bassist Alec Atkins, 13, put up the video of them performing Monster on the video sharing site, and their manager was soon contacted by a Sony executive who watched it.

"I'm so excited! We've made it!" Jarad told the New York Post.

There seems to be catch though - the boys will only see the bulk of the money if their first album hits the high bar of selling more than 250,000 copies.

By contrast, Beyonce's last album sold 600,000 copies.
